Immigration Issues: The Penalty For Not Learning English

When it comes to immigration reform, some are demanding that people learn english before they can earn US citizenship, but is this really necessary?

Millions of people from all around the world are learning english as a second language because english has become the business language of the world:

*   Foreign countries and their corporations use different native tongues and most of the larger businesses sell to the american market.  So when these companies talk to each other, they use english because it's the one language that they have in common.

*   Whenever airline pilots and flight controllers talk over the radio, they are required to use english no matter where on earth they are...

When a hotel maid goes home for the day, one can be sure that she will tell her children: "Aprendes inglés! (You learn english!)"  Why? Because she knows that if her children don't learn english, they will be destined for the lousiest, dirtiest, lowest paying jobs available.

We already have a penalty in place for immigrants who don't learn english: It's a minimum wage job (at best) with no advancement all the days of their lives...  Isn't that penalty enough?

We don't need the power of the Congress or the Constitution to get our immigrants to learn english.  The power of our economy is more than power enough.
